Newham General Hospital, as it was then, was opened in 1983 by HM The Queen providing centralised hospital services for Newham and its surrounds.

These days, Newham University Hospital provides all the services you would expect from a local hospital including emergency care, surgery, children’s health, women’s health and maternity services, specialist medicine, long-term care and diagnostics. We also have a dedicated stroke unit for those rehabilitating following urgent treatment. Newham is fully dementia friendly, with specially designed buildings to help people experiencing confusion.

The hospital itself retains a real family feel in the heart of the local community. The modern and airy buildings reflect the innovative care inside.

The Gateway Surgical Centre

This bright and airy, 39 bed centre which opened in 2005 is situated in the grounds of Newham University Hospital. It offers fast, day-care, elective surgery and diagnostic procedures in many different specialities. The Centre also houses a sports injuries clinic and a fracture clinic.

The Centre is the perfect choice for people who need elective surgery in gynaecology, orthopaedics or urology as well as general surgery. Typical operations include hip replacements, hernia repairs, gall bladder removal and hysterectomy.

We boast some of the most innovative and modern diagnostic and surgical facilities available anywhere in the world, with doctors and nurses who are highly skilled, experienced and caring.

Newham Hospital is a great option for private patients who want to benefit from a modern, local hospital with the expertise of an innovative centre of excellence.
